KANI held its 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 21 August 2025. It welcomed alumni from the incoming batch 12 and voted in favour of holding general meetings every three months: about 8 of 12 participants voted yes and none voted no. The hybrid meeting began at 1:00 pm, straight after the ABE Initiative send-forth. This post summarises the meeting and explains how KANI votes work.

What is the KANI AGM?
The AGM is the meeting at which KANI’s members review the Association’s work and take decisions. Under the Constitution, all officers are accountable to the members at the AGM.
What happened at the 2025 AGM?
New members welcomed
Twenty participants from the incoming batch 12 joined in person. They included alumni of the ABE Initiative, Agric-Net, PREPARE and GX programmes. The KANI President, who was represented by the General Secretary, welcomed the new ABE participants and SDG scholars and thanked JICA for its support. JICA staff attended as observers.
Business of the meeting
- The minutes of the 2024 AGM were read and adopted.
- Members received a presentation of the year’s achievements, including the Lagos International Trade Fair, the networking events, the Emperor’s birthday celebration and the send-off for the Ambassador of Japan.
The vote on meeting every three months
Members said one meeting a year was too long to wait. In the vote, about 8 of 12 participants favoured meeting every three months and none opposed. The next general meeting was planned for December 2025.
How does a KANI vote work?
Under the Standing Orders and Constitution:
- A motion must be seconded before it is discussed.
- Each member has one vote, usually by a show of hands.
- The Chairman has a casting vote if votes are tied.
- Elections, and issues the meeting treats as important, use a secret ballot.
