What is a courtesy visit, and why did KANI make one?

A courtesy visit is a formal call on an official to introduce an organisation and open a relationship. KANI makes such visits to increase engagement with local, state and federal government around its aim of building bridges between Nigeria and Japan. The Special Adviser had earlier been a special guest at the JICA-organised networking event in 2024, where he spoke of collaborating with the Japanese government on infrastructure.

What happened during the visit?

  • The KANI President presented a copy of the KANI Newsletter, JICA publications and other gifts.
  • The Special Adviser took interest in KANI’s recent work, especially the solar energy training at the Lagos Mainland Local Government, and the two held a detailed conversation about it.
  • They agreed that the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure should take part in youth empowerment and capacity-building schemes.
  • Through his Technical Adviser, the Special Adviser pledged to develop viable programmes on which KANI can partner.

How can a state ministry or agency partner with KANI?

The visit points to a simple path:

  1. Identify a skills need among young people in your area, such as solar installation.
  2. Contact KANI with the need and the number of beneficiaries.
  3. Agree a programme, as KANI did with the Lagos Mainland Local Government for the solar training.
  4. Deliver and report, with certificates and a written report.
